Works for me – Saving School Papers

I have a half a years worth of special projects that my son has made in his first year of Kindergarten. I just have them lightly tossed into a box that I need to do something with, exactly what – I had no idea until just the other day. I went and purchased a 13 month pocket expandable file thingy. It was about $5.00 at Target.
Ben doesn’t believe that I should throw anything away so this works great, we can place all the papers in there each day and I can sort through it at another time. I also think how exciting it will be to be able to look back, by month and one day year and see everything that he has done.
Head on over to Shannon’s for more great Works For Me ideas.

i also have a kindergartener who doesn’t want things thrown away. i am saving all the papers, etc, but i plan to only keep a few at the end of the year. but i figure i’ll save them all for now and enjoy seeing his progress by the end of the year. i can only imagine if i saved everything like this from every year…with three kids….that would be a lot of expandable files!

I have 3 kids ages 10, 9, and 5 and I’ve been collecting “school stuff” for a long time now. My favorite tip to piggy-back on yours is to save only the handwritten things (for a handwriting sample) and ditch all the worksheet type stuff. I usually save it all in a folder like yours, then go through it sometime over the summer and toss what I don’t want to keep. For their art, I take photos of all my kids’ artwork, keep the *very best pieces* (maybe 6-8) then toss the rest. I do a “MY ART” spread in their scrapbook and include as many photos as I can from the school year, and make a cd for the rest that I keep in their file. It works for me!

I have started scanning art projects and things that I want to keep. It really reduces the amount of papers that pile up!
